MCWD schedules service interruption for 3 cities in 3 days

SOME consumers of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) in the cities of Mandaue, Cebu and Lapu-Lapu will experience a nine-hour service interruption on April 7-9.

In another development, the MCWD has announced that the Jaclupan Dam is now at a critical level due to the weak El Niño and it can only supply 14,900 cubic meters of water every day.

MCWD spokesperson Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara said the dam can supply 33,000 cubic meters of water per day in normal weather conditions.

As to the service interruption, the villages that will be affected are Cabancalan, Casuntingan, Maguikay and Bakilid in Mandaue City on Sunday.

On the same day, the areas in Cebu City that will be affected are Ayala, Nasipit, Talamban, Kalubihan, Banilad, Kasambagan, Mabolo, Apas, Lahug, Barrio Luz, Hipodromo, Kamputhaw, Capitol Site, Zapatera, Cogon Ramos, Sta. Cruz, Lorega San Miguel and Day-as.

The service interruption will start at 8 a.m. and it will end at 5 p.m.

A scheduled power interruption will also halt the operation of deep wells in Banilad, Talamban and Cabancalan.

In Lapu-Lapu City, there will be no water from 8 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday in Bangbang, Pilipog, Ibabao, Calawisan, Babag I, Looc, Gun-ob, Poblacion and Pajo.

The water supply will be interrupted to give way to a pipe replacement project in Babag I.

MCWD urged its clients to stock and conserve water before the service interruption will happen. (from HBL of Superbalita Cebu/KAL)
