Estremera: Good food at a bread hub

THE name is Nord’s Bread Hub, the newest eating place at Azuela Cove (it opened last February). Except that... we didn’t make it to dessert and their breads. We were stuffed just trying out their appetizers and main course and that’s a good sign.

It was Miggy who alerted us about the new place, thus we met up last Wednesday for a reunion. It was also Miggy who noticed that the chefs were wearing Viking’s uniforms. Hmmm?

Imee and I ordered brewed coffee and it came with a small slice of a chewy pastry that was yummy. That was our only introduction to what the place is named for since we decided to have dinner first and dessert later. (By the way, the coffee is good. Not awesome good, but good. And I may not blog and gloat about my expertise on coffee cupping, but many times, I’m better than your resident blogger. I was born that way. Hahahahaha!)

Imee insisted she wanted meat (scared that Miggy and I would overpower her choices since Miggy’s vegetarian while I have sworn off eating pork), so I ordered the beef casserole to share. I also got the Okra Treo as appetizer, while Miggy got the Caesar’s Salad, French Onion Soup, and Shrimp Aglio Olio.

Service is fast. Despite the crowd, our orders came freshly cooked before we even ran out of stories to tell each other.

The battered fried okra is interesting, simply because I haven’t seen a place offering fried okra hereabouts. The dressing is good. But okra being okra, many may not like it. Like Imee.

The must-order is the beef casserole. It is goooood. And it’s for sharing, too! It comes with a cup of rice with stir-fried veggies on the side.

The Onion Soup is good too, although I wish they have tomato soup, as well. I have a soft spot for creamy tomato soup more than French Onion Soup.

The pasta can be better. It was a bit too oily and the shrimp a tad soggy. But maybe it was just me.

The pastries were winking at us from their refrigerated racks, all looked yummy. Except that the slices looked HUGE, and we were already stuffed. We just had to say no to our cravings and promise to come back soon.

No wonder the place had quite a crowd when we came, the food is good, and has a quiet ambience such that you will not notice that it was packed.

It’s highly recommended. I promise.
