Salvador: Davao to HK on Cathay Dragon

THE most recent trip to Hong Kong rekindled my love affair with the city.

I know I am not alone in saying Hong Kong was the first trip abroad. Like most international destination in the 90’s, Manila was the exit point. A long way to HK from Davao—and costly, as we had to pay to fly two sectors. Chartered flights cut the travel time, not the cost though. The flights didn’t last.

Enter the (Cathay) Dragon

After years of clamoring for more direct international flight from airlines to other popular cities other than Singapore, Cathay Pacific sent its Dragon to fly us to Hong Kong from Davao three times weekly. A wish granted. That’s hassle-free international travel. It cuts travel time with a single ride. Most importantly, Manila stopover, where chances of delay are high due to high runway traffic, or Cebu or Clark. Layovers are tiring and can be stressful.

And you want more flights?

Apparently, three times weekly flights weren’t enough for Davao travelers. The frequency became four days weekly a few months after the inaugural flight was launched. Then five.

There was a demand for more. This summer season, Cathay Dragon is flying six times a week. Yes, six, for more chances of traveling to feast on that dimsum, or snag the latest IT bag in the market tax free!

US$109 round trip Davao-Hong Kong

Better believe it. USD 109 plus taxes will get you to Hong Kong and back. Fly on Thursdays or Saturdays, then you can enjoy HK for a song. Selling date is from March 18 to April 15 with travel dates on April 4 to May 4. Summer (or Spring in HK) will be more fun with this super low-cost fare up for grabs.

Travel beyond Hong Kong

Traveling farther? Hundreds of destinations are within easy reach on board Cathay Pacific via the posh Hong Kong Airport, where layovers can be entertaining (it’s a food and shopping paradise) or relaxing (at Cathay Pacific’s The Sanctuary, a dedicated yoga and meditation space at the The Pier Business Lounge).

Recently, Cathay Pacific expanded its Japan network with a new route to Komatsu in the Ishikawa Prefecture. The airline is increasing its frequency to Seattle, USA, from four times weekly to daily flights.

The airline’s Summer Sale will get you to your favorite destinations across the globe at best prices. Sale period is until April 15 for travel until November 30, 2019.

Mile high dining on HK flavors

Missed your chance to feast on HK flavors on your layover? Don’t worry, Cathay Pacific is introducing authentic Hong Kong dishes on board all its long-haul flights from HK. The dishes are inspired by the local neighborhood eateries that define the city’s everyday culinary scene. Dishes like braised abalone with flower shitake served on First Class, roast duck with lai fan noodles served in Business Class, steamed halibut with Tai O served at Premium Economy and Hong Kong-style seafood curry rice in Economy Class.

For economical and hassle-free travel, fly Cathay Dragon direct to Hong Kong from Davao, and to the rest of the world on Cathay Pacific from HK.

With the money you saved on plane fare, you have more for shopping or dining!
