66 EVRAA delegates downed by 'food poisoning'

AT LEAST 66 delegates from Biliran division were rushed to the hospitals in Ormoc City due to suspected food poisoning.

The delegates were part of this year's Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA), which opened in Ormoc Saturday, April 6.

Initial reports said the delegation from Biliran was billeted at the New Ormoc City National High School.

The Biliran group has its own cook and caterers, according to Lalaine Marcos, Rotary Club of Ormoc Bay official and publisher of Ormoc-based weekly EV Mail.

Marcos asked the public to pray for the safety of the victims.

Twenty of the victims were brought to Ospa Farmers Medical Center, 30 were rushed to Ormoc District Hospital, while 16 other were sent to Ormoc Doctors’ Hospital.

The City Health Office, through Dr. Edmund Kierulf, is still investigating the incident.

It is estimated that 10,000 people from 13 divisions in Eastern Visayas will participate in the EVRAA initiated by the Department of Education from April 7 to 12. (SunStar Philippines)
