Repair of taxiway to start Monday

THE Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) will start implementing the P350-million rejuvenation of the airport’s taxiway on Monday, April 8.

The taxiway will undergo an overlay of asphalt, which will be done in segments so as not to disrupt airport operations.

A portion of the taxiway will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. until the expected completion of the project on June 6.

MCIAA Assistant General Manager Glenn Napuli said they considered the rejuvenation project as urgent because a rough taxiway could endanger airplanes.

He said the project was supposed to be implemented alongside the rejuvenation of the runway last September. They decided, though, to postpone the taxiway’s repair to prevent further delays of international flights.

According to MCIAA Public Affairs Manager Maray Ann Dimabayao, some airplanes may have to take a longer, circuitous route depending on the phase being worked on.

However, she assured the public of minimal disruption on aircraft operation.

“If the first segment will be repaired, the second and third segments are still operational,” she said.
