STARTING on Palm Sunday, April 14, all police units in the Metro will go on full alert to ensure there would be enough officers on the streets to assist the people and beef up security operations as travel peaks for the Holy Week.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Guillermo Eleazar said on Sunday, April 7, that a total of 11,600 policemen and several K-9 units will be deployed to secure airports, seaports, vital government and private installations as well as other places of convergence, including main highways and churches.

Full alert is the highest level of readiness in all police offices and units. Eleazar noted, however, that they not received any security threats.

“On Holy Week, we are on full alert status, all applied leave of PNP personnel are cancelled to ensure (that) all PNP personnel are present. All posts, where policemen are on duty to make sure (there is a) 100 percent attendance,“ Eleazar said.

Police will also secure bus terminals, jeepney stops, pilgrimage sites, and even residential areas, where criminals might operate to take advantage of unattended houses.

Police assistance desks will also be established in strategic areas.

Eleazar said increased police visibility on the streets and in vital installations will complement existing security measures such as checkpoints to deter crime incidents.

He appealed to the public to stay alert and report to the police any suspicious person or behavior and any untoward incidents or crimes through the NCRPO hotline 0915-888-8181 or 0999-901-8181. (SunStar Philippines)
