Norminva volleyball tourney set April 8

TOP local high school volleyball girls teams will compete Monday, April 8, in Northern Mindanao Volleyball Association (Norminva) Inter-High School and Inter-Collegiate Volleyball Tournament at Barangay 24 covered court, Cagayan de Oro City.

Private schools in Cagayan de Oro such as Angelicum Learning Centre, St. Mary’s School and Corpus Christi School, which already produced Palaro players and developed UAAP-material talents, are set to bare fangs in the exciting tournament organized by the Norminva coaches and referees in partnership with the Cagayan de Oro City Sports Commission and City Mayor Oscar S. Moreno.

“Ready na kini sila, though the organizers have the right to revise the schedules in the event of some minor glitches like availability sa venue,” said Norminva head Alex Adeva, who is also the coach of the Corpus Christi spikers.

Aside from Barangay 24 covered court, the inter-school tourney will also be held on the City Hall ground and Macasandig covered court to accommodate bigger number of participants especially those coming from the neighboring places of Cagayan de Oro.

“Nikusog gyod ang interest sa volleyball karon especially sa distaff side labi nga aduna nay mga local players like Erika Raagas (SMS Fiat, CDO) and Blove Barbon (Quezon, Bukidnon) nga tua na sa Manila gadulaan sa UAAP Games,” one coach told SunStar Cagayan de Oro.

The high school entries also include Pilgrim Christian College, St. Mary’s Academy, Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS), Lourdes College Basic Education, Capitol University Basic Education, Mindanao State University (MSU) Marawi Basic Education, MSU IIT Integrated Developmental School, San Isidro College Malaybalay, Bukidnon Faith Valencia, Bukidnon National High School, St. Joseph A. El Salvador, Iligan City National High School, La Salle Academy Iligan, Zamboanga del Sur National High School, Catumbalon National High School, Bethel Christian Academy, Cagayan de Oro College-Phinma (B), EGUSA NHS, Kong Hua School, Liceo University High School and City High (CDO NHS).

Listed in collegiate division are Southern Philippines College, Pilgrim, Xavier University, MSU-Marawi, MSU IIT Iligan, Central Mindanao University, Iligan MCC, Capitol University, STC Tandag City, Bukidnon State University, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP)-CDO, USTP Claveria and Zamboanga CSPC.
