Second half surge nets Argao District 2 title

ARGAO broke away in the second half to cruise past Samboan, 91-69, for the 2nd District crown in the Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Argao Municipal Gym on Saturday night, April 6.

Argao broke the game wide-open in the third quarter, turning a 46-37 lead at the break into a 68-48 edge going to the payoff period. Argao just put the finishing touches of the win in the last 10 minutes.

Marwin Mancao poured in 15 of his 23 points in the second half to pace Argao in the dominating second half. Jomari Parantar handed 22 points, seven in the fourth quarter, while Jimwel Torion Jr. chipped in 12.

Samboan was off to a strong start with a 22-18 lead after the first quarter but the home team was quick to bounce back in the second quarter and turned the four-point deficit to 46-37 lead at halftime.

John Michael France Rosal finished with 15 points, Raphael Charles Dinampo handed 11 and Eves Niño Manolong contributed 10 in a losing effort for Samboan.

The district champion Argao won P100,000 cash prize, while Samboan did not go home empty-handed with P50,000. Both Argao and Samboan are through to the quarterfinals. (RSC)
