Danao beats Liloan in Durano Cup

DEFENDING champion Danao City showed its pedigree with a 78-66 win over Liloan in the elimination round of the 9th Congressman Red Durano Cup on Saturday, April 6. Danao City bagged its third win in as many games and remains one of the only two undefeated teams this season in the Under-18 basketball tournament.

Carl Batiquin scored 15 points while teammate Paul Valeroso handed 10 for Danao City, which opened the game with a 23-15 lead in the first quarter before it grew to nine points, 43-34, at the half. Liloan, which dropped to a 2-1 card, trimmed the deficit to seven after the third quarter, but Danao City controlled the payoff period to come away with the convincing 12-point win.

Danao City and Carmen share the lead in the team standings with identical 3-0 (win-loss) cards. In the other game, Compostela slammed Catmon, 69-42, to take its second win in three outings. Kobe Paradiang led the winning team with 20 points while teammate John Pilapil handed 10. (RSC)
