Pangan: Some random thoughts on the elections

FATHER Rolando V. dela Rosa, O.P., wrote about his take on the coming May elections. He succinctly observed: election season in our country is like an action movie where elitist brats, macho drop-outs and political opportunists are dolled up and packaged as credible and lovable characters.

The voters are always viewed as gullible as suckers. They believed all what the candidates tell them during rallies and speeches in various fora and proceed (albeit wrongly) to vote for them. Only after the elections do they realize their blunder. As always, we've been fooled, they say.

On the national level, I have to give credence to the senatorial slate of Otso Diretso especially attorneys Chel Diokno and Florin "Pilo" Hilbay. They are sincere and frank in carrying out their campaign sorties although they short in campaign funds. Ditto with Atty. Romulo Macalintal, that famous (and expensive) election

lawyer.

Local leaders face the challenge of creating jobs, improve basic social services and better governance in their districts. Voters should hold them to that task. Filipinos deserve more local leaders who are, at the very least, competent, trustworthy and not corrupt, these as written by Dindo Manhit, President of Stratbase ADR Institute.

Councilor Alfie Bonifacio of Angeles City is a multi-tasker in performing both his legislative duties and his mission to serve people inside and outside the city limits.

His dental prowess serves him well as he dishes out extraction functions and gives free dentures to qual;fied patients. All these, pro bono.

With his current drive to keep his post in the Sangguniang Panlungsod, he maintains that he will continue with his professional endeavor as a dentist and a legislator.

A vote for Councilor Alfie Bonifacio is an attestation of his sincere devotion to duty and unflinching commitment to serve.

The Angeles City voters deserve only the best public servants.

Another excellent public servant is comebacking former Angeles City vice mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting who is a shoo-in for the vice mayoralty post.

Her track record in public service is unblemished and will definitely prop her in her bid to regain her old post as City Vice Mayor and Presiding Officer of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

A vote for Vicky is a vote for a competent local legislator.
