City produces 120 graduates under scholarship program

THE City Government of Cagayan de Oro has produced 120 new graduates in the year 2019 through the Oro City Scholarship Program for the underprivileged students in the city.

Many of the graduates have finished with Latin honors while some have already found jobs after their graduation ceremony.

“We are very happy nga (that) aside sa (from the) scholarship nga (that is) funded by the national government, ang (the) local government sa Cagayan de Oro City also offers the Oro City Scholarship funded by the taxpayers (in the city) sa dakbayan,” Richel Petalcurin, the head of the City Scholarship Office, said.

Among the city scholars is Michelle Dampog who expressed gratitude that she was able to pursue her college degree through the scholarship program.

According to the City Scholarship Office, the City Government currently has 1,500 students under the scholarship program.

Job skills orientation

The City Government, under its Community Improvement Division, recently conducted a job skills orientation at the City Hall.

More than 400 people attended the orientation, including single parents, out-of-school youth, overseas Filipino workers, senior high school graduates, and persons with disability (PWDs) who are interested to enroll in the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) and acquire technology-based skills and NC II certification.

Among the courses offered by Tesda are massage therapy, cookery, food and beverage, cosmetics and housekeeping.
