Zero water supply in 2 Cebu City villages

FOR two days now, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) has sent water tankers to deliver water to Barangays Sambag 1 and Sambag 2 in Cebu City after learning there is no running water there.

The water rationing started last Saturday, April 6, after MCWD clients reported that they did not have water for 24 hours.

MCWD’s truck was parked outside the barangay hall and provided water from 3 p.m. until midnight.

MCWD spokesperson Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara said they are concerned about the situation of their clients.

“We use water delivery to differentiate this activity as actual rationing/balancing of distribution in the pipelines. Due to the high demand in the neighboring areas, despite the rationing, many of them said they didn’t have supply,” she said.

On Sunday morning, April 7, MCWD rationed water again in the two villages.

“We have asked Barangay Captains Aileen Guardo and Ryan Aznar to prioritize today the areas that were not covered yesterday,” Kara said.

The Jaclupan Dam is now at a critical level due to the dry season and it can only supply 14,900 cubic meters of water every day, while the Buhisam Dam is no longer able to supply water to MCWD’s pipelines. (FROM HBL OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / KAL)
