PVO to honor partners in livestock, poultry development

THE Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental is again recognizing its partners from the public and private sector who contributed to the development of the province's livestock and poultry industry.

Eighteen individuals, groups and local government units (LGUs) will be honored in this year's Provincial Veterinary Achievers Award at the PVO Livestock and Dairy Fair Area on Thursday, April 11.

The event is one of the activities during the week-long 26th Panaad sa Negros Festival in Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City, which will open today, April 8.

Cathyrine Narez, coordinator of the Provincial Veterinary Achievers Award, said the recognition is given to those who exhibit excellence, exemplary performance and consistent advocacy in support to the livestock and poultry development programs of the Provincial Government.

Narez said the annual award highlights the best practices and innovative ideas implemented and adapted by the awardees focusing on the whole value chain from production to marketing as well as sustainability.

“It recognizes the potentials and attributes of the awardees who display their unique role as raisers, veterinarians and leaders that help propel the industry,” she added.

PVO is recognizing Martin Samuel Manuel Torres and Placeda Lemana as this year’s Tatak Veterinarian awardees.

PVO District Field Unit VI is the outstanding district field unit while Bago City is the outstanding partner-LGU for the Provincial Rabies Prevention and Control Program.

Lodilyn Pagunsan is the outstanding livestock coordinator while Ma. Chona Salas and Santiago Nietes are the outstanding field monitoring officer on livestock dispersal and re-dispersal, and outstanding farmworker, respectively.

The Calvary Chapel Christian School will receive the outstanding academe on multiplier farm adaption and sustainability award.

For the outstanding agency and organization on promoting livestock development, it will be given to Manara Ata Tribal Council.

Other organizations receiving the award this year are Alliance of Hog Raisers Association in Negros Occidental as outstanding PVO organized association and Bulahan nga Nanay Association as outstanding women's association on livestock development.

Other awardees are Joenilo Mamaed - outstanding paravet, Engineer Marilyn Manuel - outstanding partner on research and development, Mark Ezzer Ligan - outstanding young animal raiser, Timothy Gargantiel - outstanding agri-livestock technology advocate, Julieta Evelyn Aguillon - exemplary service awardee, and Alpha Grace Tupas - PVO employee of the year.

This writer, on the other hand, is the recipient of the outstanding partner on public information and advocacy award.

For his part, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said the awardees, as model to those implementing the projects, shall continue and sustain the exemplary performance in each field.

“The public expect much from us especially in PVO,” Decena said, “Let God bless and bind us in the journey of socio-economic development by alleviating poverty.”
