THE City Government of Davao is accepting applications for various scholarship grants.
On Monday, April 8, the applications for the Tertiary Education Program (Step) and the Law Education Assistance Program, scholarship grants offered for underprivileged but deserving students who want to pursue a college education, are accepted by the Education Benefits System Unit (Ebsu) until April 30.
Since 2009, the local government had been providing scholarship assistance to almost thousands of students in the city.
“The program aims to help poor students pursue college and improve the economic condition of their families,” Ebsu Technical Assistant Emilio Domingo said.
Medical Educational Assistance Program (Meap) is also offered to students who want to become medical doctors and they can submit their applications from June 1 to 30.
The City also offers scholarships under the Technical Vocational Program, and scholarships for differently-abled persons and for Indigenous Peoples (IPs).
Under the program, the local government provides full and partial scholarships for its Law and Medical Scholarship programs with additional P8,000 book allowance for law students and P20,000 book allowance per semester for medical students, depending on their scholarship type.
Domingo reminded applicants to bring initial requirements for evaluation such as report card for K12 graduates and transcript of records for college levels.
Under the Step, incoming first year college applicants should have a final average of at least 93 percent to initially qualify for the scholarship.
College levels (second to fourth year) should have no grade below 87 percent in all subjects.
The applicants for the Law Educational Assistance Program must bring a photocopy of their Transcript of Records (TOR), certification of General Weighted Average of at least 85 percent and the Philippine Law Admission Test Result (Philsat).
“Only 15 slots are available for the Law Program and around 10 for the Medical program since we already have existing students and we will just fill in the available slots,” he said.
Meap applicants should bring a copy of their TOR, certification of General Weighted Average of at least 85 percent and the National Medical Admission Test Result. (With reports from CIO)
