THE gallantry of Filipino heroes who fought during the World War II is relived by those who are continuously battling against crime, drugs, terrorism and corruption, the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief said Tuesday, April 9.

“The undying gallantry of the Filipino heroes of Bataan and Corregidor lives on in the ranks of the police service, immortalized by modern day heroes who offered the supreme sacrifice for God, country and people, and those who continue to wage the national crusade against crime, drugs, terrorism and corruption,” said PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde in a statement as the country commemorates Tuesday the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor).

"We commemorate this momentous event to mark and remember the heroism of our Filipino war veterans coinciding with different meaningful activities in participation of all government agencies, including the PNP, representing the law enforcement sector," he added.

The country celebrates the Araw ng Kagitingan every year to honor the heroism of Filipino soldiers and guerillas who fought side-by-side with American allies to free the Philippines from Japanese occupation.

In time for the occasion, Albayalde, together with Lieutenant General Archie Gamboa, deputy chief for operations, visited the policemen who were wounded in a clash with communist rebels in Mountain Province last week.
