PDRRMO to aid El Niño-affected areas

THE Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) will distribute the initial P29-million assistance fund after it can identify priority areas and beneficiaries affected by the weak El Niño.

Of the amount, P9 million was sourced from the PDRRMO’s quick response fund, while the remaining P20 million came from the other departments in the Provincial Government.

Jules Regner, PDRRMO information officer, said the initial assistance they can give are water containers, sacks of rice, canned goods, electrolytes and vitamins for livestock.

The local government units (LGUs) were given until Wednesday, April 10, to submit their reports to the PDRRMO.

As of Monday, April 8, the estimated damage to fishery, agriculture and livelihood in 29 LGUs was still at P100 million.

The Provincial Board (PB) approved on March 25 en masse a resolution declaring the province under a state of calamity.

PB Member Thadeo Jovito Ouano, the committee on environmental conservation and natural resources chair, filed the measure.

Placing the province under a state of calamity will allow the Capitol and LGUs under its jurisdiction to use their quick response funds based on the needs and assessments of their communities. (RTF)
