CEBU City’s Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) will dole out P12.5 million worth of projects to the 80 barangays, which will be charged to the City’s Barrio Fund.

During its regular session last April 2, the Cebu City Council approved a resolution sponsored by ABC President and Councilor Franklyn Ong that transferred the Barrio Funds from the City Government’s coffers to the ABC.

Before the resolution was approved in the council, the ABC approved a resolution and signed a manifesto for the release of the aid to the barangays.

Of the 80 barangay captains, only 49 signed the manifesto supporting the resolution.

Even if the 31 other villages’ chiefs did not sign the manifesto, Ong said all 80 barangays will get an equal share of the funds, regardless of their barangay’s population.

The P12.5 million came from the barangays’ share of the Internal Revenue Allotment.

Ong intends to use the amount for the purchase of computer sets, motorcycle units, tents and portable sound systems, which he said will help the barangays in their day-to-day operations.

He said he will find out if they can proceed with the bidding of the projects and purchase of supplies while the election ban is in effect.

The ABC recently distributed 30 monobloc chairs to each of the 80 barangays using funds from the private sector. (From PAC of SuperBalita Cebu, LRC)
