NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. expressed optimism that this year's Panaad sa Negros Festival will attract more tourists and generate higher sales.

A Capitol report showed that the festival generated almost P2.5 million in revenues on April 8 alone, the first day of the festival.

Marañon, at the sidelines of the activity, said the annual celebration has been growing and helping more local producers and farmers.

In 2018, the festival generated total sales of P25.922 million, a 40-percent increase from the P18.43 million earned in 2017.

Marañon took pride in the development of Negros Occidental into a food destination. He observed that most local and foreign tourists visit the province just to eat.

The number of tourists visiting Panaad normally reaches 20,000 especially during the highlights.

"This is mainly because of the freshness of our food," he said, adding that with better quality, diversified and a bigger number of products offered in Panaad, higher revenues will be raked in this year.

Revenues generated on the first day of the festival came from the organic agriculture fair, livestock and dairy fair, trade fair and exhibit, eco-garden show, food park, and food kiosks.

The amount did not include yet the sales generated by the pavilions of participating local government units (LGUs).

The eco-garden show reported the highest sales of about P1.2 million. The livestock and dairy fair earned P771,305; food kiosks, P216,081; organic market, P84,177; and food park, P184,630.
