AFTER winning two awards at the recent Gandingan 2019: The 13th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Multi-Media Awards by the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), One Western Visayas has vowed to provide Negrense audience more inspiring stories.

Launched in August 2018, One Western Visayas is GMA Regional TV’s pioneering Hiligaynon news program aired in Negros Occidental and Panay Island.

It bagged the Gandingan award as Most Development-Oriented News Story for “GMA Regional TV Presents: Modern Day Heroes.”

Also, the newscast’s “Bigyan ng Halaga” emerged as the Most Development-Oriented Feature Story.

Both stories were produced its news correspondent Zeny Grace Quilantang and video journalist Rommel Porquia.

The show’s co-anchor Adrian Prietos, in a press conference at Planta Hotel in Bacolod City Monday, April 8, said they are not only catering to hard-hitting news which Negrenses seemed accustomed to.

Prietos said the program offers inspiring stories through short documentaries and features on personalities just like a news-magazine type show that has been attracting usual news clients for seven months now.

“We are very inspired with these awards because we just started August 27 last year and our entry for the Gandingan was aired August 28,” he said, adding that “winning story reflects heroism within us, whatever our status in life is.”

Prietos added “as part of our serbisyong totoo identity, we will keep on doing our best to give our audience stories that can give them inspiration, motivation and hope in life.”

One Western Visayas airs on weekdays at 5 p.m. Other anchors of the program are Atty. Sedfrey Cabaluna and Kaitlene Rivilla.

Oliver Amoroso, vice president and head of GMA Regional TV, said they are committed to produce regional programs that are attuned to stories, voices and viewership outside of Metro Manila.

“In an age when more and more people clamor for local news, GMA Regional TV remains firm on its belief that access to local news on free TV is a great equalizer,” Amoroso said.

It is the local stories that directly affect families and immediate communities, he added.
