NorMin cops on alert amid terror threats

AN OFFICIAL of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao has maintained that government security forces remain on top of the peace and security situation, even as he said that measures are in place to ensure lawless elements and threat groups could not sow terror in the region.

PRO-Northern Mindanao spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Surki Serenas said joint police and military forces are ordered to strengthen security efforts to thwart plans of terror groups and communist insurgents across Northern Mindanao.

Serenas said security inspections and target hardening measures are intensified to prevent similar incident that happened in Lanao del Sur where a government soldier was killed and another six wounded in a firefight between the military and New People’s Army (NPA) in Kapai town.

“All police units are directed to stay alert and not to let their guard down,” Serenas said.

Serenas earlier said that Camp Alagar is set to augment police personnel in the five provinces of Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon and Camiguin, especially that the May 2019 elections is fast approaching.

He said members of the Regional Mobile Forces Battalion will be deployed in key areas to foil atrocities perpetrated by the communist rebels and terroristic activities of the lawless and terror groups.

“The encroachment of this terrorist group in the areas of Lanao del Sur, which are not their usual mobility corridors, further validates the report that they are feeling the pressures from our troops in our area,” Serenas said.

“Their presence in the areas of Lanao del Sur might also be aimed at forging alliance with the equally dying IS-inspired terrorists. In that case, we have a positive confirmation that they are indeed terrorists. No need to prove,” he added.
