Businessman, 2 others nabbed in anti-drug ops

THREE people, including a businessman, were arrested while some P45,000 worth of suspected “shabu” were seized in two anti-drug operations in Zamboanga City, the police said Thursday, April 11.

Police Brigadier General Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested suspects as Robert Araneta, 51, a businessman; Junicar Ellam, 31, a laborer; and Jonathan Saz, 45, who works as a checker.

Licup said Araneta was arrested in a drug bust at 6:25 a.m. Thursday at Sitio Bagong Dalan in Tugbungan village.

He said Araneta, a newly-identified drug personality, was caught in possession of some P20,000 worth of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), and P200 marked money.

Licup said Ellam and Saz were arrested in another drug bust around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday in the vicinity of the local port in Zone 4 village.

He said confiscated from the two were some P25,000 worth of suspected shabu packed in 14 heat-sealed plastic sachets, and P200 marked money.

He said the three arrested suspects were detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)>/b>
