Pangan: Yes, it’s all about performance

IT’S drawing near, the judgment day for candidates in the national and local elections on May 13, 2019.

On this Monday, a fateful one because the voters will once again decide and choose their new set of leaders.

In Mabalacat City, it would be a test of the voting strengths of Mayor Crisostomo Garbo and City Vice Mayor Christian Halili who will dispute those who will hold the reins of government for the next three years from 2019.

Mayor Cris has introduced beneficial innovations to the city government via comprehensive medical and health programs, financial, burial and medical assistance, streamlined operations and records in the city government and encouraged teamwork and job commitment among city employees. Definitely, he has the edge in terms of performance and good governance.

Vice Mayor Christian relies on the legacy of his late father, former Mayor Fred Halili and former Board Member Tars DC Halili with the slogan: Noon, Ngayon at Bukas: Serbisyong Walang Kupas. Indeed, the elder Halilis have built solid mass bases throughout their long years of government service. Plus, the anticipated support of the powerful religious bloc.

Mayor Cris is unfazed by this prospect as he relies on his solid performance in governance and his being a born-again Christian. Gauged by his crowd-gathering strength, he may emerge victorious in the May elections.

Still, others say, it will be a tight race.

As compared with the main thrusts of Team Performance of Makati Mayor Abby Binay, Mayor Cris has the following good points: a) clean and effective governance; b) leadership with integrity and a progressive city under his leadership.

Given all these plus points, can Mayor Cris be deprived of the mayorship?

In Angeles City, the sure winners for the position of councilor are reelectionists Joseph Alfie Bonifacio and Joseph ‘PG’ Ponce, both with sterling records in the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Ditto with former city vice mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting who is firm to reclaim her old post. During her term as city vice mayor, she has accomplished much for her city and its residents. Give Vicky another term and she will deliver more beneficial local legislations to the

Angeleños.
