Chamber pushes for more investments

THE Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) is eyeing more investments on information and communication technology (ICT), manufacturing, and agribusiness to generate more job opportunities in Davao City.

DCCCII executive vice president John Carlo Tria said on Wednesday, April 11, that more employment opportunities will boost the economy of the city and attract investments.

“ICT is one area we want to push because of the value it brings. Manufacturing din because of the job-generating potential and of course, agribusiness because all of this are really going to create jobs and raise opportunities,” Tria said.

“When there’s more employment, the tendency is progress of economy kay daghan man ang naga-participate (because a lot of people are participating). That is why we are really pushing for these investments,” he added.

The DCCCII has been preparing for the upcoming Davao Investment Conference 2019 on June 20-21 at the SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang Premier where more than a thousand delegates are expected to attend and become potential investors of the city.

“Investors like a strong economy. They are not going to invest in a place where they feel that they cannot make money,” Tria said.

In order to promote the event, the DCCCII will conduct roadshows in the different countries. On May, they will have a roadshow in Singapore to get more business people from the area to attend the event.

“The impact [of this event] is really to generate more investments particularly on areas mentioned, the ICT, manufacturing and agribusiness because we have to capitalized the attention we are getting para mayroon siyang legacy,” he said.

“Investments are legacy of the economy. The benefit will bear fruit years or decades after kasi if it is just promoting tourism, we do not when they will come back. Of course, tourism is important but that is how we make the economic benefit stay for a much longer time,” he added.
