THE prime suspect in the murder of a 14-year-old girl in Barangay Cogon Cruz, Danao City surrendered to authorities in Tuburan town on Friday dawn, April 12.

Jessie Montes Medequillo surrendered to authorities at 5 a.m., six days after he allegedly killed Tesa Marie Ygay.

On Saturday, April 6, Ygay’s father reported her missing to the Danao City Police Station.

Two days later, the girl’s body was found in a septic tank at the back of the Cogon Cruz Integrated School.

Police Colonel Ismael Gauna, Tuburan police chief, said Medequillo initially surrendered to village officials in an undisclosed barangay before he was brought to the police.

Medequillo was brought to the Cebu Provincial Police Office headquarters at Camp Arcadio Maxilom in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City on Friday afternoon, April 12.

The suspect will be charged with murder before the Danao City Prosecutor’s Office.

The autopsy conducted by Dr. Benjamin Lara, medico-legal officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Central Visayas Crime Laboratory, showed that Ygay had been stabbed in the neck and head 13 times, in her left arm 11 times, seven times in her body, twice in her left hand and once in her right hand.

There was no crack in her skull, and her brain did not show hemorrhage.

Lara could not say if the victim had been raped because the girl’s body was already decomposing. The girl was not pregnant.

Ygay had been dead for more than 72 hours when Danao City police found her body in an open septic tank behind a public elementary school in Cogon Cruz, according to Lara. (from GPL of SuperBalita Cebu/JKV)
