NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Major General Guillermo Eleazar inspected on Friday, April 12, bus terminals in Cubao, Quezon City ahead of the Holy week break.
Eleazar, during the inspection, talked with the security guards and personnel of each station to remind them of the security measures to maintain peace and order.
He also reminded the public to follow safety measures provided by the Philippine National Police and other security personnel to ensure their safety and smooth travel.
The PNP earlier reminded the vacationers traveling using public utility vehicles to arrive early in terminals, sea and air ports especially when traveling with the elderly and children, as well as to secure tickets and passports, avoid wearing expensive pieces of jewelry and other items that may be inviting to the eyes of the criminals, particularly thieves, and look and constantly check on belongings, be alert against snatchers and thieves, and to travel light for a more hassle-free travel.
It has been an annual tradition of the Filipinos to go on vacation in provinces in the observance of the Holy week.
In Metro Manila alone, at least 11,500 police personnel will be fielded to secure the public, including local and international tourists visiting Metro Manila not only during the Holy week but the entire summer vacation.
“During this season, various activities are being observed such as Lenten Season, Philippine Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Labor Day, National Flag Day, Flores de Mayo, and fiestas. These activities draw huge numbers of people in places of convergence like malls, churches, recreational areas, tourist destinations and areas of transport services like the MRT, LRT, bus terminals, airports and seaports,” said Eleazar.
Aside from the full alert status, Eleazar also ordered all district directors and station commanders to focus on the Enhanced Managing Police Operations Strategy, maximum police presence, establishment of police assistance desks and tourist police assistance desks, and other pre-emptive measures while the public celebrates the Lenten Season.
The NCRPO also coordinated with other law enforcement agencies, local government units (LGUs), force multipliers, volunteer groups and other concerned agencies for the conduct of anti-criminality operations, target hardening measures and traffic management/direction and control, and other related police public safety services.
Eleazar said they are yet to monitor any possible threat against the peace and order in the Metro.
He asked for the public's cooperation to the NCRPO’s anti-criminality endeavors for a peaceful and enjoyable summer vacation in Metro Manila.
He also encouraged the public to report immediately to the nearest police station and police assistance desk whenever there is any suspicious person or activities observed.
