THE Leyte Division settled for the second spot as this year’s Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Evraa) meet ended in Ormoc City on Friday, April 12.

Bagging 56 gold, 37, silver and 40 bronze, the “Leyte Conquerors” maintained their standing for second year in a row after a 10-year supremacy in the annual sporting event organized by the Department of Education in the region.

“My salute to all our coaches. I am very proud how you manage yourself and your team despite of our financial limitations. Your deportment exhibited in the public is truly remarkable of a coach who deserves to be respected. Truly indeed, discipline makes a man,” said Edgar Tenasas, Leyte assistant schools division superintendent.

Tenasas said the division “will surely learn our lessons to further improve ourselves as coaches and athletes and most of all enhance our skills for the next Evraa season.”

“For Leyte, we humbly embrace our defeat, we accept our weaknesses,” he said.

Ormoc City clinched the top spot with 162 gold, 97 silver, and 69 bronze, while the third place went to Samar Division with 21 gold, 29 silver, and 35 bronze, based on the overall summary of results as of 3:39 p.m. Friday, April 12.

Tenasas said “it would be an honor for Leyte and the rest of the schools divisions to support Ormoc as it leads the region in its quest for more gold medals in the Palarong Pambansa” in Davao City slated from April 27 to May 4.

“The success of Ormoc is a milestone in the history of Evraa. The burning passion, skills and discipline of the Ormocanon athletes will surely catapult Eastern Visayas to a certain height in this year’s Palarong Pambansa,” said Tenasas.

He also congratulated the host city, through Mayor Richard Gomez and School Division Superintendent Manuel Albano, for an “improved” Evraa 2019.

Leyte will host the next Evraa game in 2020.

Nearly 10,000 participants from the 13 schools divisions in the region joined in the annual sports tournament. (SunStar Philippines)
