A POLICE officer was shot dead inside his residence in Catbalogan, Samar around 3 a.m. Thursday, April 11.
Authorities identified the victim as Police Staff Sergeant Kirk Walter Lorenzo, who was assigned as police community relations officer of the Catbalogan City Police Station.
Initial investigation showed that Lorenzo was attending an alumni gathering at Samar State University (SSU) the night before the incident when he was followed by the gunman until he reached his residence.
The lone assassin managed to sneak inside the house and shot Lorenzo in the head while he was resting in the sofa at the receiving room, said police.
A family man, Lorenzo was rushed to Samar Provincial Hospital for immediate medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Authorities are conducting hot pursuit operation for the possible arrest of the gunman. (SunStar Philippines)
