2 pedicab drivers nabbed for stealing P2M in jewelry, cash

PERSONNEL of San Carlos City Police Station in Negros Occidental arrested two pedicab drivers for allegedly stealing more than P2 million worth of jewelries and cash in a house of a retired nurse at Barangay 5 on April 10.

Police identified the suspects as Alberto Arcenas, 36 and Christopher Salvador, 28, both residents of Barangay 4.

Lieutenant Colonel D' Artagnan Katalbas Jr., city police chief, said the suspects allegedly ransacked the house of a 66-year-old woman who went on a vacation with her family last Wednesday.

When they returned the following day, they noticed that the doors in the house were already destroyed.

Katalbas said the suspects were arrested in a follow-up operation based on a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera installed by the city government at the major streets and crime prone areas in the city.

We have identified their faces through the CCTV footage, and we were able to locate them at Barangay 4, he added.

Police recovered from the suspects the stolen jewelries worth P1,931,000 but the cash amounting to P69,796 was already used.

Robbery charges will be filed against the two suspects, who are detained at the police station.
