4 hurt in multiple vehicle collision

FOUR persons were injured after a transit mixer truck hit 11 vehicles along Araneta Street in Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City Thursday night, April 11.

Three of the four wounded victims were identified as Carlos Villadar, Benny Semeña, and Carlo Camingawan.

Police Captain Jun Ray Batadlan, head of Police Station 9, said the mixer truck driven by Rene Morden, 42, of Murcia town was heading towards north direction and was supposed to stop at the intersection when he suddenly lost control of the truck and hit the vehicles he was tailing.

The brakes on the truck malfunctioned which caused the collision, he added.

It was like a domino effect, Batadlan said.

The vehicles involved in the accident were a motorcycle patrol driven by Semeña, a Ford Everest driven by Joselito Patayan, a pedicab driven by Villadar, Hyundai Tucson driven by Brian Joseph Tajonera, Suzuki multicab driven by Marlon Tañacao, Toyota Vios driven by Reynard Espedido, pick-up truck driven by Jerry Macariola, Montero sport driven by Reynold Ramos, a tricycle driven by Gerald Anthony Patubo, a passenger jeepney driven by Generphil Buenafe, and a motorcycle driven by LD Echon.

Batadlan said all vehicles incurred damage in the accident. The accident caused one hour traffic congestion in the area.

He said the injured victims sustained minor injuries and are confined at a hospital.

The fourth victim showed up to the police the following day.

Morden was released from police custody at 7 a.m. Friday after the lapse of his 12-hour reglementary period, Batadlan said.

It will depend on the complainants if they will settle it with Morden or if they will still press charges against him, he said.
