Bacolod prioritizes war on drugs

THE campaign against illegal drugs is still the top priority of the administration of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, according to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran on Friday, April 12.

Familiaran emphasized this after President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said that he will end the country's drug problem in the last three years of his term.

“Let’s hope and pray. Our problem now is the demand and supply of illegal drugs so we need to address this problem,” Familiaran said.

He said the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) should double their efforts to monitor and neutralize the drug personalities in Bacolod.

“If we can prevent the supply then, it will also reduce its demand,” he added.

Familiaran pointed out that Mayor Leonardia has a standing order to BCPO to focus on the campaign against illegal drugs.

“We have to intensify our campaign against illegal drugs to neutralize the drug personalities here,” he said.

Familiaran noted that BCPO is also conducting an information and education campaign in various barangays as well as in schools to encourage the youth not to engage in illegal drugs.

“We need the cooperation of our constituents and the youth to arrest the drug personalities. We should help each other to eliminate illegal drugs in our barangays,” Familiaran said.

He said the BCPO earlier seized about P9.6 million worth of illegal drugs in Bacolod.

“It’s a big achievement of our police so hopefully, they can sustain their operations in the 61 barangays,” he added.
