MCWD cancels scheduled supply interruption

THE Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) has postponed its service interruption on April 17-18.

Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara, MCWD spokesperson, said it would be better to cancel the interruption as Cebu is experiencing a water crisis caused by the weather phenomenon El Niño.

The scheduled water interruption would have affected Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City and parts of Cebu City—barangays Mabolo, Lorega-San Miguel, Carreta, T. Padilla, Tejero and Tinago, North Reclamation Area, Pier area, M.J. Cuenco Ave. and a portion of Imus Road.

The reason behind the service interruption was the desilting process planned by one of MCWD’s service providers, the Cebu Manila Water Development Inc. (CMWD), as part of its preparations for the rainy season.

CMWD was to have done the desilting in Carmen.

Kara said MCWD and CMWD decided to set aside aside the desilting process, so that consumers would not have to suffer further when water is already scarce during this time of drought (from HBL of SuperBalita Cebu/KAL)
