THE inspiring story behind Sheena Medspa’s passion-filled founder and her entrepreneurial journey is one that shows how hard work and perseverance can engineer the fulfillment of dreams.

Sheena Macapinig, a proud Cebuana, first dipped her toes in the world of business back in 2012 when she franchised Hollywood Nails Beauty Salon and Spa.

“Beauty has been my passion since high school,” she said as she sat elegantly dressed in her white suit. “I have a degree in business management-accounting and I wanted to use it for the passion I had, which is why I first franchised Hollywood Nails Beauty Salon and Spa.”

The early part of 2014 was when her studies in aesthetics began.

“I took the course because I have this belief that you can’t do business well unless you know everything about it,” said Macapinig, who worked hard for her license at the La Manille School of Aesthetics.

After earning her license, she started Sheena Skin and Body Wellness in 2015, which was renamed into Sheena Beaute Centre.

“As we continued interfacing with clients, we got to know their needs better. We had to reach out and adjust to their lifestyle—so Sheena Skin and Body Wellness turned into Sheena Beaute Centre because they wanted a one-stop shop that included hair and nails,” she continued.

Eventually and currently, the company made Sheena Medspa.

“I came up with Sheena Medspa because I realized that it’s not just a beauty treatment, it’s actually therapy. You don’t just work from the outside—I actually even counsel clients during consultations. They come for enhancements because they want to boost or renew their confidence and self-image, so we’re also touching their emotions,” Macapinig said as she emphasized that the most important part of the treatment was to get to know what the goals of her clients were.

“Cebuanos are picky. They want value for money. I’m like that too. For me, the product doesn’t have to cost much for it to be good,” she said.

Macapinig continued by saying that knowing what the ingredients are and having knowledge about the research and development of the formula was what was important. That was how they met Double Dare and the OMG! products—through an R & D her company conducted last year.

The Sheena team recently launched their latest and biggest leg of Beauty Camp, a gathering of beauty enthusiasts to get to know more about and try out their newest products, at the Oakridge Executive Club. The first Beauty Camp (launched last Feb. 16) started out as a secret and private event for the company to test the market.

“The event and products were really a hit! We were completely sold out during the first Beauty Camp—which I didn’t anticipate, so we had to immediately ship in more,” she said. Sheena Medspa was recently awarded the Philippine partnership with Double Dare, a U.S.-based company with beauty products made in Korea, the U.S., and Italy.

Macapinig added, “Beyond the brand and the campaign, we want the clients to use the products and, at the same time, do business with them. They can market the products because the clients themselves believe in and love them.”

“This is really my dream,” Sheena said, telling the story of how a high school girl’s passion for beauty turned into a growing enterprise.

All it takes is passion with a dash of perseverance and hard work and, in time, any dream can become a reality.
