DURING the election season, candidates elicit support from their supporters and the electorate in general: the more supporters, the more votes, and the more chances of winning. This is the essence of wooing and winning for the numbers to get an elective position.
During the same season, there are those hardcore supporters who are willing to die for their candidates. On the other hand, there are those who give their support as they get paid. There are those, too, who practice fanaticism, regardless whether there are promises for something or not.
The election is a test of loyalty and how far or how far allies would go for their candidates. It’s a test of strength of candidates’ supporters whether they would make their bets win or lose. In them, the voice of the majority is heard. The voice of the people is the voice of God.
During the same season, political turncoatism becomes normal. There are some political supporters who change horses during the election season.
Although everyone has the right to choose their own candidates to support, it seems to be a form of disloyalty to switch support to the other candidate or the opponent of those previously supported by one.
Recently, former Candaba mayor and Pampanga Mayors’ League president Jerry Pelayo denied working as a campaign manager of Pampanga gubernatorial candidate and Bacolor Mayor Jomar Hizon.
The former mayor likewise stated that he is “keenly watching” the advocacies of current Pampanga vice governor and gubernatorial candidate Dennis Pineda. Hizon and Pineda will face each other in the said political race this coming May 2019 mid-term elections.
Meanwhile, some former barangay captains in the City of San Fernando had abandoned incumbent city’s Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin re-election bid and expressed their support to incumbent city councilor Angie Hizon.
The former barangay executives alleged that Lazatin did not provide support to their respective barangays after the latter won as the city’s Vice Mayor. Instead, they are now supporting Lazatin’s nemesis in Hizon.

A summit for young entrepreneurs was recently conducted through the partnership of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Pampanga and RiceUp Farmers Inc. and Brigham Young Hawaii - Enactus during the First Youth Social Entrepreneurship Summit conducted in Lubao town recently.
Ex-officio board member and SK Federation president Moshe Lacson led youth leaders in learning how to create business canvass, models and plans for their social enterprises. According to him, the aim of such activity is to help the youth in boosting their interest in enterprises particularly in agriculture.
Lacson, who hails from Magalang town, is on the right track in leading the way for SK leaders learn how to become entrepreneurs. He is starting them young and right.
