TO CONNECT bloggers, vloggers, and influencers of Northern Mindanao to various business owners, brands and companies, the blogging community started its first and biggest blog convention of the year last Thursday, April 11, held at the Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City.

Participated by more than 50 active bloggers, vloggers, and personalities from all over the region, Manila, Davao and Cebu, the CDO Blog Con 2019: “Shaping the Era of the New Media” aims to provide the right knowledge, skills, and tools needed by aspiring bloggers to jumpstart a career in the blogging industry.

The event is also to gather, strengthen and develop the blogging community in Cagayan de Oro, opening doors of opportunities and connecting bloggers to business owners, brands, and companies who are looking for bloggers to promote them.

“So it’s like I’m building equal opportunities for all,” Ma. Khristine “KC” Curay of The Explorer’s Channel and the founder of the CDO Blog Con, said.

KC said the blog con is also to help educate the existing bloggers and vloggers on how to improve or level up their knowledge on blogging, and the public and business owners who have no idea what it’s like to be a blogger.

“They [bloggers] have to be refreshed kung ano ang mga trends natin (on what our trends now), every year dapat ma (there’s a need to) refresh yung (the) knowledge, malaman mo kung ano ang mga bago para (know what is new so that) you always have a room to grow for yourself, na makakahabol ka talaga sa mga (that you need to equal the) likes of Manila and Cebu bloggers, how to be like them na to be (in order to be) marketable to brands,” KC said.

“Educating the public and business owners here who don’t really have an idea what it’s like to be a blogger, kung ano ang mga skills na ini-invest namin (what are the skills we have invested), mga (the) equipment, mga (the) knowledge because it’s not easy being a blogger,” she added.

KC also said that through educating the public and businessmen, this can help put an end to the misconceptions that bloggers are “freeloaders,” showy or “pasikat,” and to make them see that blogging is a serious career path.

“I would like to extend this to the students, kasi (because) we want to teach them what blogging is,” Arvin Chavez Dimate, the co-founder of CDO Blog Con, said.

“Kasi lahat na naka (because almost all are) online. You need to know whether you are looking or reading into a good content or a bad content. It can make you or break you,” he added.

The three-day event, from April 11 to 13, will feature several talks and workshops such as Business to Business session, Guest Influencers and Personalities Appearances, Starpod Launch and Promotions.

There’s also an awarding ceremony for the winners of the blogging and vlogging contest of CDO Blog Con 2019.

The convention also features exhibits of businesses, brands, companies, and market services offered by participating bloggers, vloggers and influencers.

“This year, we are very happy that we got a lot of partners. We are very happy for the result and we hope in the coming years, we’ll be able to grow more,” Dimate said, adding that next year, there will be more topics that will be discussed and more speakers who will give talks on blogging.
