Probe helps DEPW with declogging activities

TAKING advantage of the dry season, personnel of the Prevention Restoration Order Beautification and Enhancement (Probe) of the Cebu City Government will help the engineering department declog the city’s drainage systems.

The focus of the operations will be areas near public markets.

Probe Chief Raquel Arce said vendors had asked for their assistance during a consultative meeting.

Arce said they started declogging the drainage on Manalili St. corner Lincoln St. and at the Carbon Public Market last Friday, April 12.

Probe personnel usually maintain order along sidewalks by making sure vendors do not encroach on the passageway for the public.

Arce said she assigned one team composed of 15 personnel to help the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) with the declogging.

The DEPW conducts the declogging of drainage systems, canals and other waterways year round.

DEPW personnel concentrate on areas considered hotspots for clogged drainage like Colon St.

Arce said DEPW deployed one suction truck to help them.

“For every suction truck, there are four personnel only. So we augmented the personnel,” she said.

Probe and DEPW will next declog the drainage on Briones and Calderon Streets, also in the Carbon Public Market area. RVC
