8,500 cops deployed in Central Luzon for Holy Week

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Some 8,500 personnel of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon are deployed all over the region to ensure a safe and solemn observation of Holy Week.

This was disclosed by PRO-Central Luzon Regional Director Brigadier General Joel Napoleon Coronel. He said the policemen are tasked to secure all major thoroughfares and places of convergence region wide during the holidays.

“About 8,500 policemen are deployed purposely to secure the different areas, especially those of public convergence this Holy Week wherein there is an expected influx of tourist and visitors, especially in the vicinity of churches,” he said.

He noted that road safety marshals are deployed in specific convergence points particularly in bus terminals, airport, seaports and recreational areas including highways, main thoroughfares and crime prone areas to ensure maximum police presence.

Coronel added that police presence will be intensified through increased foot and mobile patrols and establishment of police assistance desks and centers in strategic areas and along major thoroughfares.

“Criminal elements may take advantage of people converging in places such as churches, especially during Visita Iglesia, and on beaches and other tourist destinations for relaxation and recreation but rest assured that your PNP is primed and equipped to serve and protect the public,” he said.
