NASTY List... this early in the year
No, it’s not about Santa’s nasty/naughty list. It’s about compromised Instagram accounts being used to spread a dubious link via DMs. It’s a scam, basically, to trick users into giving up their passwords.
The scam works by using compromised accounts to send messages to followers that express shock at them being on the Instagram Nasty List. You can find examples of Nasty List message formats at Bleeping Computer, but these usually start with something like "OMG your (sic) actually on here at number 38" or "WOW. Your (sic) on here!!! ranked 100." The messages all include a link to the full Nasty List and provide an explanation of why the user is on it. This lands at a convincing looking, but fake, Instagram login page.
You can already guess what happens next when one lands on that convincing Instagram login page. It’s another phishing scheme. And if you’ve come across enough phishing messages in your email inbox, you’d know to be wary about those.
5G phone: now or not yet?
The hype is everywhere for 5G. Networks in the US are already starting to implement it. Although it’s global rollout can still be far off, the question lingers still -- should we get a 5G capable phone today or hold off on it? I have two answers -- yes and no.
Yes. If you can afford the exorbitant price tags of the 5G-capable phones of today, go ahead and live the cutting-edge life. It’s always a good thing to be on the leading edge of technology as it pushes forward. Do keep in mind that there will be kinks along the way and the early adopters will most definitely bear the brunt of those kinks.
No. There’s no sense really in being right there in front of it all right away. 5G is new and lots of things are still being ironed out when it comes to that standard. As far as I’m concerned, there are more theories being put out than real-world practice. And it would seem as well that to be able to use 5G, you’ll have to pay premium for it too. Personally, that’s a big letdown for me.
