Families lost homes in fire (7:30 p.m.)

CEBU CITY— At least 100 houses were affected in a fire that hit around 4 p.m. Tuesday in Sitio Tambisan, Barangay Tisa.

Cebu City Fire Marshal Esmael Codilla said it took them 40 minutes before declaring a fire out in the interior portion of Sitio Tambisan, causing an estimated P900,000 damages.

Codilla said the fire department received the call at 4:03 p.m. He said their fire truck had a hard time going inside the affected area, which is 25 meters away from the main road, due to narrow passage way.

Initial reports showed that the fire started in the house of Annie Morillo, who sells viands. The fire marshal said the fire immediately spread to neighboring houses due to the structures of light materials.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña said in a television interview that help will come on its way starting Tuesday night and food will be distributed among the fire victims.

The fire authority said the investigation of the cause of the fire is still on going and two angles are considered: one is an electrical wiring problem and the other is from Morillo’s household.

The fire victims are temporarily housed at La Paloma village gym in Barangay Tisa. (Sunnex)
