Hizon seeks greater role for LGBT sector

VICE mayoralty candidate Angie Hizon is seeking to provide the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community greater participation in the city government.

Hizon, during a forum at the University of the Assumption, said she finds happiness in the company of the LGBT community and would push for greater involvement of their community in the city government’s policy and activities.

Hizon said she would encourage more organized LGBT groups in the city to better address their needs and concerns.

While the city council of San Fernando is mainly concerned with the passing of the needed laws of the city, Hizon said the council can also pass legislation that gives recognition to the needs and concerns of the LGBT community.

Currently, the City Government of San Fernando has a partnership with the LGBT group Siwala under the city’s Gender and Development office. The city has been an active participant of the yearly commemoration of the pride walks organized by Siwala, especially in the month of June.

The main objective of the celebration of the LGBT June Pride Month is to empower and uplift the image of those who belong to the LGBT community and further reduce stigma and discrimination among them.
