I’M SURE a good portion of Cebu’s population was glued to the boob tube yesterday morning to watch the first episode of the much-awaited final season of the popular show “Game of Thrones.”
I had better things to do than find out what happened after the undead dragon Viserion melted a section of the Wall with blue fire with the Night King astride him, allowing the Army of the Dead to finally march through and thus wreak devastation on the continent of Westeros.
After all, the leader of the Abellana Drug Group was just arrested by police during a drug bust in Sunrise Village in Barangay Bulacao Pardo, Cebu City last Sunday, April 14. Allegedly seized from 39-year-old Archie Abellana was shabu weighing 168.14 grams with an estimated street value of over a million pesos.
I thought this was deserving of a second look. After all, not only is Archie a high-value target, but he is also the cousin of Michael Abellana, a drug lord reportedly operating inside the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City. And get this, Archie is also related to Mercy and Mark Abellana, who were arrested with more than 10 kilos of illegal drugs worth more than P100 million two years ago.
He is definitely more interesting than, let’s say, Theon Greyjoy, aka Reek, who went off to rescue his sister Yara after a brutal fight with Harrag, an Ironborn raider, which earned him the respect of her men.
I mean, who is Theon compared to Archie?
Well, for starters, he must be one of the most hated men in George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. He did just about betray everyone who ever cared for him starting with Robb Stark, the man who considered him a brother. But he might have garnered some pogi points after that scene on the beach. He also did help Sansa escape from the clutches of her now deservingly dead, demented husband Ramsay Bolton whom she had fed to the dogs. Literally.
But no matter how fantastical the series’ plot twists and turns, it’s nothing compared to Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s latest revelation.
But what’s more interesting than finding out that Jon Snow is not really a bastard? That he is actually the son of Ned Stark’s sister Lyanna and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, who had married in secret, making him the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne.
Well, how about Osmeña accusing Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, his opponent in next month’s mayoral race, of colluding with police to harass the former’s allies in the mountain barangays?
Hmm. Come to think of it, maybe watching what Cersei does next may be more interesting. I’d better catch the replay later this week.
