LTO launches ‘Oplan Semana Santa’

THE “Oplan Semana Santa Biyaheng Ayos 2019” of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is on.

LTO- Western Visayas Director Roland Ramos said that “Oplan Semana Santa” has started on April 12 until April 22.

He warned that while most will go out of town for family bonding this Lenten Season, LTO emphasizes that safety should come first.

“The campaign against colorum vehicles especially vans is strictly imposed including driver's licenses and vehicle registrations,” Ramos said.

He also said that LTO will deploy personnel at the terminals to assist motorists.

Ramos also warned that illegal colorum vans carries a penalty of P200,000.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) implements Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa for 2019 as instructed by Department of Transportation Secretary Atty. Arthur P. Tugade.

Oplan Biyaheng Ayos ensures there are sufficient trips available for the expected influx of passengers during the period surrounding the Holy Week and the road worthiness of all public utility vehicles (PUVs) as well as the readiness of PUV drivers in getting commuters and motorists to their destinations quickly, safely and comfortably.

LTFRB Transport inspectors started to put up advisories in terminals nationwide in cooperation with bus companies and terminal operators. Ocular inspections of terminals and garages are also being coordinated to ensure compliance of companies and operators to required facility standards, including security protocols, comfortable waiting areas and clean restrooms, among others.

Further, LTFRB will be conducting random inspection of units and franchise documents beginning 10 April 2019 together with the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (i-ACT), as part of ensuring the safety of the passengers in areas where i-ACT operates, and with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Highway Patrol Group, and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in other parts of the country.

To complement these initiatives, Malasakit Helpdesks have been set up in terminals to address queries and complaints from passengers.

The agency continues to intensify its Oplan Anti- Colorum and Oplan Isnabero operations against illegal or colorum PUVs and taxi units with franchise violations, respectively. (TDE)
