Another NPA rebel yields in Surigao

AN ALLEGED political officer of the New People's Army (NPA) surrendered to authorities last week in Bislig, Surigao del Sur.

Troops identified the rebel as Aileen Inayan Mission Alyas Yvonn/Angie, 31 and resident of Barangay Sarmiento, Laak, Compostela Valley Province. She is allegedly a former member of the Guerrilla Front33 (GF33), Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC).

She also surrendered one M16A1 Rifle with one short magazine loaded with 20 rounds ammunitions and a shotgun with 4 ammunitions.

According to the army, Inayan decided to surrender citing corruption and deception among the high-ranking leaders of the NPA.

Her surrender is the 77th in the number of surrenderers of the rebel movement since the first quarter of 2019, the 75th Infantry Battalion said.

"Yvonn is an eligible recipient of Enhanced Comprehensive Localized Integration Program (E-CLIP) in which she will be given financial assistance once she gets enrolled in the said program," Lieutenant Colonel Jaime Datuin,75th IB Commander, said.

“We encourage all the remaining CPP-NPA terrorists to abandon the armed struggle. Let us be partners in keeping a peaceful community and we urge you to support our government’s call for a life of peace and harmony,” Datuin said.
