Observe common poster areas, bets told

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City reiterated its appeal to all the local candidates to observe the common poster areas in Bacolod.

Acting Bacolod election registrar Ann Janette Lamban said Tuesday, April 16, since the start of the local campaign, they already removed more than 1,000 illegal posters in various areas that were placed on electrical posts and trees.

She said on Monday, they removed illegal posters in the areas of Barangays Sum-ag, Singcang-Airport and Pta. Taytay.

“We are listing the numbers of illegal posters of the candidates and we will submit it to the Comelec Central Office,” she added.

Lamban noted some of the violators were also national candidates.

She said the candidates should observe the Election Fair Act and they should remind their supporters not to post their posters on electrical posts and trees.

“They should use the identified common poster areas to avoid violations. Candidates must also observe the required sizes of their campaign materials, it should not exceed the two-by-three-feet size,” she said.

Lamban noted the candidates should be sincere to follow the Comelec campaign rules.

“We always call for them to put their campaign materials in proper areas however, they continue violating them and posting them in electrical posts and trees,” she said.

She said most of the violators were candidates running for councilor such as Rico Villafuerte, Jason Villarosa, Archie Baribar and Bartolome Orola.

Meanwhile, Lamban also urges the candidates to spare dogs from politicking.

This, after a photo of a dog in Bacolod City with a campaign sticker on its body has gone viral on social media.

“They want to get attention so they used a dog to get the attention of the voters. Hopefully, they will not use dogs [again] because we have our own concept of campaign,” Lamban said. (MAP)
