Bus driver in Bago accident released

POLICE have released the driver of a Ceres Liner Bus who figured in an accident at Barangay Pacol, Bago City, Negros Occidental on April 15 that left one woman dead, and 40 more injured.

Police Captain Reynaldo Severino, deputy city police chief, said Aimer Paro, 28, of Sipalay City was released from detention at 10 a.m. Tuesday after an initial settlement with the family of deceased passenger Ana May Declaro, 28, of Barangay Maao.

Severino said the Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) has assured assistance to Declaro’s family.

However, Severino said Paro can still face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries if the wounded victims will press charges against him.

It can be filed on regular filing, he added.

On April 15, a bus loaded with 41 passengers, including the bus driver and conductor were on its way to Barangay Maao from Bacolod City when it suddenly fell on its side.

A total of 33 passengers sustained minor injuries, six sustained serious injuries and were transferred to different hospitals in Bacolod City. They were all assisted by the bus company.

Meanwhile, the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-Western Visayas plans to suspend the franchise of 10 units of buses of VTI with routes Maao to Bacolod and vice-versa for 30 days following the accident.

The LTFRB will also conduct an investigation about what happened to determine the cause of the accident.

Based on police investigation the bus was not speeding when the accident happened at the curve portion of the road but they are eyeing it could be due to human error. (GYM)
