IN OBSERVANCE of the Holy Week, Malacañang has issued a memorandum suspending work in government offices on Wednesday, April 17, beginning 12 noon.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by authority of President Rodrigo Duterte, signed Memorandum Circular 60 on Wednesday, announcing the suspension of work to give government employees “full opportunity” to enjoy holidays on April 13 to 15.

Government workers, who are mandated to render vital public services, will “continue with their operations.”

“To provide government employees full opportunity to properly observe 18-19 April 2019, regular holidays, and to allow them to travel to and from the different regions in the country, work in government offices on 17 April 2019 is hereby suspended from12:00 in the afternoon onwards,” the memorandum read.

“However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital public services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services,” it added.

Medialdea said the suspension of work in private sector is left to the employers' sound discretion. (SunStar Philippines)
