Faithfulness

“MOST men will proclaim each his own goodness, but who can find a faithful man?” (Proverbs 20:6, NKJV)

This was a question posted by a wise king of old. As a ruler, he was surrounded by a lot of people who tell tales of themselves or speak flatteries with an intent of satisfying their egos, but he desired that he be surrounded by faithful ones instead. Men and women who are not just loyal but truthful to their core. Persons of such caliber are as rare as valuable precious stones.

Everytime we hear the word “faithful”, we always think of marriage first. Faithfulness is important and is not only limited to this covenant between a husband and wife, it applies to every aspect of our lives. King David once declared, “Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.” As the heavens are above the earth, it simply expresses that faithfulness practically covers a wide range of everything under the sun including every area of our lives.

The above scripture that proclaimed God’s faithfulness reaching to the clouds is a testimony of who God is, to Whom we should pattern our lives. God is faithful in every possible meaning of the word. God is faithful to His Word, His promises, His own laws, His covenant and faithful to the apple of His eyes, the humankind. He is so faithful that He loves each person unconditionally with an eternal and unchanging love.

Individually, we can start to practice faithfulness by keeping honorable relationships. We should also keep our promises and give truthful answers to painful questions. Let us be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us, either in the workplace or at home. Marcus Tullius Cicero’s writing is noteworthy saying, “Nothing is more noble, nothing more venerable than fidelity. Faithfulness and truth are the most sacred excellences and endowments of the human mind.”

Come to think of it, if every person lived faithfully, wholesome and trustworthy lives are lived leading to honorable relationships. Such relationships will result to intact families that will further translate to functional society for a productive workplace. Surely, faithfulness has its way to make a united and transformed nation. As a nation, God wants to lead us even further that we already reached. That’s why He gave us His Spirit, the Leader and Helper, for among the fruits of the spirit is faithfulness.

God’s design for us is to become like Him, as He is faithful, we become faithful in all our ways. Human nature is corrupt and flawed, but the good news is that we can change by the power of His Spirit. We can live a faithful life in thought, word, and deed!

Are we faithful men or women? “May the Lord repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness.”
