12 frat men to play disciples in Last Supper dramatization

FRATERNITY members will play Jesus Christ’s 12 apostles at the Archdiocesan Shrine of San Roque in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City on Maundy Thursday, April 18.

Fr. Mhar Vincent Balili, the parish priest, said the participants are from Alpha Kappa Rho International Fraternity and Sorority, Tau Gamma Phi and Beta Phi Sigma.

For this year’s Holy Week, Balili said he chose the fraternities so he could involve them in spreading the Gospel.

“Ang society ba naa bitaw morag phobia og fraternities nga mga bugoy kaayo bitaw. Pero Kristiyano man na sila pod. Dili bitaw ta mahadlok nila pag-evangelize (It seems the society has a fear of fraternities, thinking their members are all misfits. But they are also Christians. We should not be afraid to evangelize them),” he told Superbalita Cebu.

The Roman Catholic Church had declared 2019 the Year of the Youth. On April 23 to 28, Cebu will host the National World Youth Day.

Balili said the religious activity involving fraternities is in line with Pope Francis’s call for priests to reach out to the people who are far from the church and those living in the “peripheries.”

“These are the people we often visited. We have to evangelize the lost, the least, and the last. Naa man tay bias ani nila. Mao nang dili nato sila apilon, pero mga Kristiyano baya na sila (We already formed biases against them, but we should remember that they are Christians, too),” he said.

According to Balili, fraternities, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community members, senior citizens and drivers meet in their parish every month for their special apostolate. (From SCG of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
