Samante: Eyes on the prize

SPORTS events, all over, has shifted to higher gear with the NBA playoffs, PBA semi-finals and the MPBL Datu Cup Finals, UAAP Volleyball Final Four and the upcoming Palarong Pambansa 2019 that Davao City is hosting.

However, basketball fanatics are eagerly anticipating the Fiba World Championships, which will showcase the best basketball talents in the world including our very own Gilas Pilipinas as well as the SEA Games.

Definitely a wonderful year for sports.

All of the teams competing in their respective leagues share a thing about setting their “eyes on the prize”.

All the hard work they have put in, from the pre-season to the regular season grind ultimately eyeing to stand tallest among the other competitors.

Setting your eyes on the prize is having clear and defined goals and objectives to be able to attain it.

All the goals and objectives should be aligned, and it helps if everyone in the organization has a common understanding of these set goals and objectives. Eyeing the prize is not the sole responsibility of the players and coaches.

It is the responsibility of all. It is the collective that brings life to these goals and objectives. As they say, we are only as strong as our weakest link. If everybody is on the same page, then the chances of having a weak link is slowly and surely eliminated. We need to stir the passion of everybody for our cause.

Present the vision and get people excited about it.

This is one of the life values we can learn from sports. We set our eyes on the prize and dedicate our actions to achieve while getting those involved excited and passionate enough to journey and accomplish it with us.

This I learned from reading and watching about successful sports teams and business organizations. This also serves as a reflection for this Holy Week. The Lord has set his eyes on saving us and dedicated his life for our sake. May we also set our sights in service of the Lord and dedicate all our actions for his glory.

Notes from the sidelines:

Apologies for the messed up Western Conference Round 1 predictions last week. Anfernee Simmons of the Portland Trailblazers happened. His exploits for his team changed the match ups I have anticipated.

All the best to our Region 11 Palarong Pambansa Delegates, eyes on the prize everyone!
