Students highligts arts in a mixed media exhibit

Cebu, a giant melting pot of home-grown artists with different talents, is a city rich in culture, music, faith and arts. Art has always been one of Cebu’s sources of pride—especially because the generation is sprouting young budding artists made up of mostly students. The University of San Carlos’ Senior High School-South Campus proudly presented their first ever art exhibit dubbed “MUGNA: TAKE ONE” via two mall exhibits at the Robinsons Galleria and SM Seaside City Cebu.

The exhibit title is anchored on the Bisaya word “Mugna,” which means to create. It showcases various artworks from their very own students. The exhibit aims to teach students basic art management and to organize arts events to develop management skills.

Event-goers convened and showed support. The works that were exhibited showed the chromatic creativity of students through different kinds of crafts. Students incorporated what would have been unusable trash into an amazing form of sculptures. Excellently carved candle sculptures and an array of dolls donned in fabulous gowns were also displayed.

Thought-provoking paintings grabbed attention and had a number of people staring at them for quite some time. The paintings were crafted through different types of media while some paintings even showcased religious imagery, such as that of the Virgin Mary, among others.

Aside from a breath-taking gallery of traditional arts, students also took pride in digital arts. The photographs that were on display captured scenes of different walks of life, while Bisaya short-films played in the background. Students from university also entertained the crowd through dance and singing performances.

This just goes to show that even with the advancement of technology, Cebuanos will always appreciate art.
