Caluag sees separate cultural unit as ‘better’ for CSF

CITY of San Fernando mayoralty aspirant Vilma Caluag said she will immediately create a separate cultural unit for the city with broader and more specific objectives that would address the city’s current cultural needs.

The cultural unit will be a separate entity from the City Tourism Office. Caluag, however, was quick to note that the creation of a cultural unit will not diminish the role of the tourism office of the city but rather expand both units’ scope and define more concrete and clear attainable objectives for the city.

She added that the cultural and tourism units will work closely to promote the city’s culture, history, heritage and tourism.

Among the tasks of the new cultural unit will be to provide needed seminars and training for more cultural workers; provide free training for Fernandino youth with inclinations towards the arts; and the setting up of a Mobile Schools Theater Workshop.

Caluag said the unit will spearhead a new cultural revival in the city with the help of artists and other art groups. It will also continuously provide visual arts workshops in schools and various sectors of the city.

The mayoralty aspirant also promised to turn the Heroes Hall, the city’s de facto city government annex and home to the City Council, as the cultural center of the city.

Caluag added that she will further expand the program of commemorating local heroes and support further plans to entice participation from the city’s various groups.
